During an appearance at the Military Child Education Coalition’s virtual summit, Jill Biden committed to supporting military families in her role as first lady, according to Military.com.
She plans to build upon her previous work as second lady.
In 2011, Biden teamed up with former first lady Michelle Obama to establish “Joining Forces.” The initiative supports military veterans and their families by offering employment, education, transition and mental health resources and services, Military.com reported.
A year later, Biden expanded on the initiative and launched “Operation Educate the Educators” to raise awareness about classroom challenges faced by military students.
“Joe and I have always believed that, as a nation, we have many obligations,” said Biden in a statement. “But we only have one truly sacred obligation: to properly prepare and equip our troops when we send them into harm’s way. And to care for them and their families, both while they are deployed and after they return home.”
