Federal Workforce Training School Sold to American Public Education, Inc., Owner of For-Profit University System

American Public Education, Inc. (APEI)  which owns a handful of for-profit universities such as American Public University, American Military University and Hondros College of Nursing  will now acquire Graduate School USA (GSUSA), a non-profit based in D.C. that has provided workforce training to federal employees since 1921.

"GSUSA's extensive portfolio of government agency contracts and customers represents a strong adjacency to APUS's core military and veteran student populations and is tightly aligned to APEI's focus on 'Educating Those Who Serve,'" states an APEI press release.

APEI's higher educational institutions serve roughly 90,000 adult learners and offer more than 240 degree and certificate programs in areas such as homeland security, military studies, intelligence, criminal justice, technology, business administration, public health, nursing and liberal arts. Meanwhile, GSUSA has a catalog of more than 300 courses on professional development and leadership training for employees of government agencies.

The $1 million transaction is anticipated to close during the fourth quarter of 2021, after which GSUSA will become a new stand-alone subsidiary of APEI.

"We are excited to be joining the APEI family," said GSUSA President and CEO Jack Maykoski. "Our commitment to supporting the federal workforce with training solutions to help them advance their careers and their agencies' missions is a natural fit with APEI's focus on career training and degrees that help provide pathways to employment and advancement."
