AUSTIN — Some people who are ineligible for Texas’ free tuition program for veterans and their families are trying to take advantage of the program anyway, adding yet another concern for higher-education leaders already grappling with the program’s skyrocketing costs.
“It’s fraud,” said Lisa Blazer, senior associate vice president for student affairs at the University of Texas at San Antonio, after testifying at a legislative hearing on the program. “This could eventually turn into something, especially looking at that demographic information.”
