Food security equals national security, and what more logical way to add to the nation’s breadbasket than having veterans take up farming after their service to their country.
That was a primary message delivered at the first Virginia Farming Conference, held Thursday-Friday at Hudson Heritage Farms near Elmo, and hosted by David and Denise Hudson, each a veteran.
Veterans possess just the right attributes to succeed at farming, being used to hard work, discipline and keeping focused on the task at hand, according to a number of speakers.
