In a $7.5 million collaboration with the United States Army, Howard University will create a “Center of Excellence” to research artificial intelligence technology, FedScoop reported.
The three main research areas at the “Howard University Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning,” include “AI applications for the Department of Defense, trustworthy AI technologies and infrastructure for AI research and development,” according to FedScoop.
As part of the center, overseen by the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Army Research Laboratory, fellowship and scholarship will be available for science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) graduate students. Additionally, there will be research opportunities for faculty members.
“The research is directly aligned with Army priorities and will address pressing problems in both developing and applying AI tools and techniques in several key applications,” said Brian Sadler, army senior research scientist for intelligent systems, in a statement.
