U.S. Coast Guard Offers Program to College Students

coast guardThe United States Coast Guard offers a program designed for college students interested in receiving military work experience, Big Island Now reported.

Under the College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI), students are enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard, where they complete basic training and a leadership course. Participants will receive a salary as well as have their tuition and other fees fully covered.

To qualify, applicants must be a junior or senior pursuing their bachelor’s degree at the University of Hawai‘i’s Mānoa, West O‘ahu and Hilo campuses, according to Big Island Now.   

“The CSPI Program is beneficial to students’ academic and professional careers,” said Chief Petty Officer Alvan Welch, Recruiting Office Honolulu Recruiter in Charge, in a statement. “In particular, it allows students to excel academically by not worrying about college’s financial burden and guarantees a job upon graduation.”
