Dr. Ed Pohl Appointed Dean of the Graduate School and International Education at the University of Arkansas

Dr. Ed Pohl will become dean of the Graduate School and International Education at the University of Arkansas, effective Jun. 1, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported.Dr. Ed PohlDr. Ed Pohl

Pohl – a professor, researcher, scholar, and U.S. Air Force veteran – is currently head of UA’s industrial engineering department and director of the Master of Science in engineering program. He has previously served as associate professor of industrial engineering; director of the operations management master’s degree program; and director of the Center for Innovation in Healthcare Logistics at UA.

“I’m honored to be named dean of the Graduate School and International Education, and I’m grateful for this opportunity,” Pohl said. “My vision for GSIE is to be globally recognized for our innovative and transformative programs and to produce scholars who are diverse, creative thinkers, problem solvers, and leaders who positively impact our state, nation, and world.”

In the U.S. Armed Forces, Pohl served 21 years in the Air Force, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. He also served in engineering, operations analysis, and academic positions, such as associate professor of systems engineering at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to assistant professor of aerospace and systems engineering at the Air Force Institute of Technology.

Pohl holds a Ph.D. in systems and industrial engineering from the University of Arizona; an M.S. in systems engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology; an M.S. in reliability engineering from the University of Arizona; an M.S. in engineering management from the University of Dayton, and a B.S. in electrical engineering from Boston University.
